Mira Monte High School
Kern High School District,

Bakersfield, Calif.

Klassen Corporation was commissioned to design the Kern High School District's newest campus, Mira Monte. The principal-in-charge was Robert Klassen, project architect was John Karnes and contract administrator was Don Evans. Combined, all three gentlemen have 93 years of experience in architecture and have worked at Klassen Corp. for more than 26 years. Together Klassen, Karnes and Evans have designed a number of K-12 campuses throughout Central California.

Totaling more than 180,000 square feet, Mira Monte's comprehensive campus includes a 600-seat performing arts center, library, 1,750-seat gymnasium, classroom buildings, labs, shops, administration, maintenance facility and beautiful circulation areas for students to congregate. With more 18 buildings the campus is a jewel in the Kern High School District system.

Design of the new campus began in October 2006 and construction was completed in August 2008, with the first day of instruction on August 18. From start of design to occupancy was a total duration of 38 months.

Klassen Corporation was proud to be chosen as the architect for this newest campus because we knew our team could save the District both time and money with use of our popular high school prototype. Klassen's comprehensive high school model saves the District one full year on the project schedule, which gets students out of temporary classrooms and into permanent facilities faster. Klassen has used their prototype to draw a number of schools in the Kern High School District, including Golden Valley, Liberty and Centennial campuses. For every campus we have developed, a unique identity was established through exterior architectural design and creative use of quads. The Mira Monte campus is a shining star in Klassen's portfolio of completed projects. We're quite proud of the finished result.
