When Halliburton was looking for an architecture firm to consolidate operations into their expansive property at Seventh Standard Road in Bakersfield, they turned to Klassen Corporation and learned during the master-planning process that Klassen Corporation was the a reputable firm that they could trust to design and build their new facilities. Halliburton Industries later commissioned Klassen Corporation for three projects including their Warehouse in Muncy, PA, Truck Maintenance and Sperry Building in Prudhoe Bay, AK, and their Field Services Center in Zanesville, OH.

Bakersfield Consolidation,
Bakersfield, CA

The initial project was organized into six phases of construction located on 40 acres of property. The total Consolidation project totaled more than 140,000 sq. ft. of buildings at completion. The first phase of the consolidation project included master planning of the site; providing all infrastructure and utilities for the entire complex. The first building developed on the property was a 38,000 sq. ft. shop designed to function as a repair facility for two Halliburton product service lines. The single-story, pre-engineered structure includes 13 service bays.

The second phase of the project consisted of a 51,000 sq. ft. office building which served as the centerpiece of the entire project. The building includes offices and cubicles for over 100 employees, an expandable training center seating that holds up to 300 occupants, locker rooms, and several conference rooms. The facility utilizes state-of-the-art mechanical systems saving 27 percent more energy than required by California Energy Codes. Day-lighting was maximized with transparent walls and clerestory glazing. The building entrance features decorative block walls and planters utilized as both an attractive look and a safety feature to keep vehicles from penetrating the structure.

The third phase of the Consolidation Project consists of an 11,000 sq. ft. expansion of the original repair facility built in the first phase. The new building includes 2,300 sq. ft. of office space and a second floor for future office expansion.
The fourth phase of the project consists of a 29,000 sq. ft. shop space and 7,500 sq. ft. office space with laboratory. The structure houses coil tubing operations at one end, a full-service truck repair facility in the center, and a cementing lab at the opposite end. The coil tubing trucks weigh in at 120,000 pounds each and are the heaviest trucks on the Bakersfield site, thus the entire site paving is designed to withstand the road wear resulting from these vehicles.

The fifth phase of the project consists of an 8,500 sq. ft. storage structure for cementing material. The sixth and final phase of the project consists of a 14,000 sq. ft., three bay truck wash and fluid top-off area. The structure can accommodate 65 foot long vehicles while capturing, treating and recycling all wastewater.

In addition to the six phases, Klassen Corporation was selected to perform construction services for Halliburton’s Gun Loading and Perforating Facility, also located on the Bakersfield site. The project included buildings totaling 21,000 sq. ft. consisting of an office, a gun loading area within a blast containment wall, an equipment wash area and covered truck parking. Klassen was hired to construct a guard shack at the operations entry point. Klassen developed the area with lush landscaping and a large U.S. flag to create an aesthetically pleasing and welcoming feature.

Halliburton Warehouse,
Muncy, PA

In Muncy, Pennsylvania, Klassen constructed a, 8,600 square foot warehouse at their existing Field Services Center. The warehouse will service Halliburton operations in the greater Pennsylvania area and houses items such as safety glasses, hard hats, light bulbs and truck parts. The facility itself rests on an 8-inch thick slab to allow for both truck and forklift traffic. The building perimeter sits on concrete stem walls, designed to allow for snow removal with heavy equipment without damaging the exterior of the building.

Truck Maintenance and Sperry Building,
Prudhoe Bay, AK

Upon the successful completion of the Coil Tubing and Nitrogen Plant at Halliburton’s Deadhorse Camp in Alaska, Klassen Corporation was asked to design and build a new Truck Maintenance and Sperry Building for the facility.
The project consisted of demolition of the sites current facilities and construction of a new 79,579 sq. ft. pre-engineered steel structure with a second floor mezzanine. The new building serves as maintenance shops for the company’s work vehicles and product service lines.

Field Services Center,
Zanesville, OH

The Halliburton Field Service Center in Zanesville, Ohio services Halliburton operations throughout the state. Of the services the Center supports, a new Cement Bulk Plant was needed to aid drilling sites to complete wells.
Klassen erected a 12,000 square foot Butler building and equipped it with control rooms, loading ramps and warehouse space with a free-standing 3-ton overhead crane. A tank slab was constructed to accommodate fifteen tanks for dry storage cement mixes. The slab itself is 3 feet thick with auger cast piles that extend up to fifty feet below ground. The site Halliburton purchased was a former strip mine. Committed to revitalizing the area to again become productive land, Halliburton refurbished the site and trusted Klassen Corporation to see to its completion.

Klassen was also commissioned to construct a maintenance and administrative support facility for the newly developed Cement Bulk Plant. The support facility chosen is an 18,500 square foot Butler building with 5,000 square feet of general office, three truck service bays and two wash bays. Inside the new building are private offices, cubicle areas, training rooms, conference rooms, restrooms and a cementing lab complete with fume hoods, epoxy flooring, metal cabinetry and resign countertops.
